A person has died after being hit by a train on a Welsh railway line. Police and paramedics were called to the railway tracks at Coychurch at around 9pm on Friday. A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Transport for Wales (TfW) and Great Western Railway (GWR) warned rail passengers of cancellations between Cardiff and Swansea on Friday evening, saying that a person had been struck by a train between Bridgend and Pencoed.

Great Western Rail said on its website: “A person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.

“Train services running to and from Cardiff and Swansea stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.” Always keep on top of the latest Welsh news with our newsletter

Their death is not being treated as suspicious, police say.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Coychurch at 9.07pm on Friday (24 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
