Wales is getting lots of sunshine this week, with one city set to reach highs of 22°C
Summer-like temperatures have arrived early in Wales – and it’s only April. Maps from the Met Office show things are set to heat up as the week goes on, with temperatures climbing to 22°C in some areas by Thursday.
Over the weekend, Welsh beaches were packed as people took full advantage of the sunshine after a long, stormy, and gloomy winter. There are still a few more days to enjoy the warmth – perfect for getting outside, soaking up some sun, and boosting your vitamin D.

Monday will see temperatures climb to around 20°C, with Cardiff the hottest spot. It will be a little less warm further north, where temperatures lag a few degrees behind.
The Met Office forecast for Wales on Monday states: “A bright start with any low cloud, mist and fog quickly lifting. Staying dry and fine this afternoon with plenty of sunshine at first, although cloud increasing a little towards dusk. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 20°C.”
It will cool down on Tuesday, with highs dropping to around 14–15°C across the country. But the dip will be short-lived.
By Wednesday, temperatures rebound, with Swansea expected to be the warmest location at 20°C.
Elsewhere, conditions will be fairly consistent, with around 19°C in Pembrokeshire, Aberystwyth and Caernarfon.
Thursday is set to be the hottest day of the week. Temperatures could reach 22°C in Newport, with many other areas close behind at 21°C. It is not much cooler in Merthyr Tydfil which will hit 20°C by 4pm.
It will be just as warm in the north of the country, with areas such as Caernarfon and St Asaph set to hit 21°C.
Western areas, such as Pembrokeshire will see the lowest temperatures, closer to 18°C.
By Friday, the heat begins to shift eastwards into England. Western parts of Wales, including Pembrokeshire, will drop to around 16°C.
Further east, it will stay warmer, with highs of 20°C in Newport and Chepstow, 21°C in Monmouth, and around 20°C in Newtown. There is a chance of humid showers.
A Met Office spokesperson has issued the following forecast for Wednesday to Friday: “Early morning cloud on Wednesday and Thursday quickly lifting to leave plenty of sunshine both days.
“Risk of showers come Friday but feeling increasingly warmer and more humid.”
