Rhodri Hewings, 26, told a security guard: ‘You do that to me and you’ll be dead mate’ after he was told he couldn’t bring his bike inside
Video footage has been released of a cyclist telling a security guard he was “dead” after he was told he couldn’t bring his bicycle into a Job Centre. The Job Centre had to be placed on lockdown after he wedged his bike and his head between the doors to prevent them from closing.
Rhodri Hewings, 26, attended the Job Centre in Charles Street, Cardiff, on November 27 last year and was running late for an appointment when he was told by a security guard he was unable to bring his bike into the building.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court previously heard the defendant became irate and called the security guard a “fat c***”. For the biggest stories in Wales first sign up to our daily newsletter here.
He spoke to the guard’s colleagues and said: “Every time I come down here he’s harassing me.”
The defendant left the bike in the foyer and walked into the Job Centre, while shouting and swearing and was told he would have to leave.
He walked around with outstretched arms and told the security guard: “You do that to me and you’ll be dead mate.”
Hewings demanded to see the manager and refused to leave before beginning to punch himself in the face repeatedly as he walked towards the exit.
The defendant was again asked to leave and told the guard: “Come outside you fat nerd, come outside now” and, “Brother, I promise you yeah, I’m following you, like I am following you.”
For a brief interlude he left the building but returned a minute later on his bike and wedged it and his head between the doors to prevent them from being locked.
He said: “You little f****** p***y, promise you’re done, I promise you bro.” The defendant also told the guards that they “helped immigrants” but wouldn’t help him.
The guard was then called a “f****** ignorant c***”, a “b*****d on a power trip” and a “m***o c***””.
The building was placed under lockdown and staff had to leave through a rear exit until the police arrived and the defendant was arrested.
The security guard said he was “frightened” the defendant would carry out his threats to harm him or follow him and described his behaviour as “erratic”.
Hewings, of North Luton Place, Adamsdown, later pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order and was ordered to carry out a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
