Police charge woman after Essex mum killed in crash

Essex Police have named a woman due to appear in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving. A mother and daughter were rushed to hospital after the crash in Westcliff.

Ruth Sarkodie, 32, of St John’s Road, Westcliff, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving. She is also charged with causing death by driving a vehicle – driver uninsured/unlicensed and fraud by false representation.

The fatal collision involved two pedestrians and a car at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road. The incident took place on the evening of Thursday, December 12.

Both pedestrians, a mother and her 23-year-old daughter, were taken to hospital, but sadly, Anna-Marie Stevens, 52, died in hospital. Ruth Sarkodie, who is currently on conditional bail, is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 11.
