Asda Express staff were left shaken but unharmed following the incident early on Sunday morning

A man has been arrested following a suspected robbery at a Northumberland petrol station. Officers were called to the Asda Express on Front Street in Prudhoe early on Sunday morning and the site was cordoned off for several hours.

The 33-year-old was reported to have entered the store with a bladed weapon, before stealing money from the till. Police have since recovered the suspected weapon.

Asda Express staff told ChronicleLive yesterday that they were shaken but unharmed. Coun Gordon Stewart called for more police resources in the county following the incident, but emphasised that Prudhoe has “low levels of crime.”

It was reported that a man has entered the store – believed to be in possession of a bladed article – before stealing an amount of money from the till.

“No-one sustained any injuries, however staff involved were left shaken.

“A man aged 33 has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody. Officers were also able to recover the weapon suspected to have been used.
