Local Woman Cautions Against Buying Dentures Online After Disappointing Purchase
A 58-year-old grandmother from Neath, Karen Soper, recently shared her experience after purchasing dentures online from a Facebook advertisement, which she claims were substandard and not as advertised. Soper bought the dentures for £14.99 in hopes of restoring her smile, having lost all her teeth to gum disease two decades ago.
Soper indicated that she has been self-conscious about her appearance due to her denture difficulties and could not afford professional dental treatment. While browsing social media, she came across a post promoting “simple at-home mouldable dentures,” which claimed to help individuals “smile confidently again.” The post featured a video of satisfied users appearing to eat hard foods like apples and corn on the cob without issue.
However, upon receiving the dentures, Soper was disappointed to find that they were made of “solid, cheap plastic” and would not stay in her mouth. She described the product as resembling candy, stating that “the Haribo teeth sweets looked nicer.” Despite multiple attempts to wear them, the dentures repeatedly fell out, leading her to question their quality and the advertising claims.
Soper expressed concern that others might fall victim to similar products, urging caution regarding online purchases and encouraging consumers to research thoroughly before buying. She noted that her past experiences with Facebook-shopping had been positive, so she was particularly disheartened by this incident.
As of now, Facebook has not responded to requests for comments regarding Soper’s experience. The incident highlights potential drawbacks of online shopping, particularly for essential products like dental appliances.
