The driver of a suspected stolen lorry ‘full of alcohol’ fled police and ended up overturning in a Birmingham street.

Dramatic images from the scene captured the HGV lying on its side in a large puddle of spilled liquid on Little Hall Road on Saturday afternoon, March 28.

Police now say a man, aged 51, was taken to hospital for his injuries and later arrested over his dangerous driving.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of theft, theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop.

The lorry and its contents – a “large quantity of alcohol” – were both thought to be stolen.

West Midlands Police said: “A man has been arrested after a lorry overturned in Duddeston, Birmingham yesterday afternoon.

“The lorry failed to stop for officers after being driven in a dangerous manner and overturned at the junction of Little Hall Road and Great Francis Street.

“It’s believed the lorry and its contents, a large quantity of alcohol, was stolen.

“The driver, a 51-year-old man, was taken to hospital.

“He has since been discharged and has been arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop.

“He remains in custody for questioning.”
