TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has suffered a stroke, and is currently receiving treatment in hospital. The GB News presenter was taken unwell last week after reportedly collapsing, the channel confirmed.

The 66-year-old was due to return to News Breakfast next week, which he co-hosts alongside Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday. However, he will be temporarily replaced by Alex Armstrong while he recovers.

GB News has since issued a statement updating viewers on his condition, the Daily Record reports.

A social media post from the channel’s CEO also gained a slew of comments from fans and well-wishers.

The statement read: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.”

The statement continued: “His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.”

Holmes’ distinguished career has spanned over four decades, with Holmes making the switch to GB News in 2022.

GB News chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos was among the first to publicly address Eamonn’s condition and ongoing recovery. He said: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”

His words were echoed by a wave of well-wishers who flooded the comments section to send their support to the popular presenter. One fan wrote: “Big hugs to Eamon. Wishing you well soon.”

Another supporter wrote: “Wishing you a good and speedy recovery Eamonn and thank for all the good you have done over the years, it is much appreciated.”

A third well-wisher added: “I hope you get well soon Eamonn, and we will see you back on GB News with Ellie.”

Holmes’ health has deteriorated over recent years following a series of injuries that have left him reliant on a wheelchair to support his limited mobility.

Despite his efforts to continue his broadcasting career, reports emerged earlier this month suggesting his future in television may be uncertain after he appeared to nod off during a live broadcast.

Beyond his health struggles, he has frequently made headlines due to his divorce from Ruth Langsford. The couple announced their split in May 2024 after 27 years together, including 14 years of marriage.

They are also parents to their 24 year old son Jack. Sources suggest the break up was difficult for both, though the GB News presenter has since begun a relationship with a considerably younger partner.

He confirmed his relationship with 44 year old relationship counsellor Katie Alexander last year.

In contrast, Ruth, 65, has been leaning heavily on her close friends for support during this challenging period and isn’t currently seeking a new relationship.

She told the Mail: “I’m not ready for a new partner, I haven’t healed from the last one.”
