Rescue teams were called to help a walker

Emergency services rushed to a coastal path after a person suffered a medical episode near a cove on the North Cornwall coast.

The incident happened on a coastal path north of Crackington Haven, near Bude, on Tuesday, April 7.

Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were called at 2.16pm. They were joined by the South Western Ambulance Service and a coastguard helicopter to help find the person.

After an assessment, the coastguard helicopter, which had a winch paramedic, and an ambulance paramedic requested the casualty to be moved to a land ambulance for further treatment.

As soon as the person was transferred, the rescue teams were stood down.

Bude Coastguard Rescue Team posted on Facebook: “At 2,16pm (Tuesday, April 7), Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked by Falmouth Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre to locate and assist a casualty experiencing medical issues on the coast path to the north of Crackington Haven.

“A member of Bude Community First Responders (CFR), the Coastguard helicopter “Rescue 924” and paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were also in attendance.

“The CFR and Coastguard Rescue Officers met at an agreed access point and worked together to locate the casualty.

“Once on scene, the Rescue Officers assisted the CFR, co-ordinated logistics and remained in communication with the ambulance and Coastguard helicopter crews as they arrived on scene.

“Following an assessment, the Coastguard Helicopter winch paramedic and a SWAST paramedic requested the casualty be moved to the land ambulance for further treatment.

“Once on board, the Rescue Team were stood down.

“If you should happen to see anyone in trouble on the coast, cliffs or sea, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
