The school has confirmed there is ‘no live threat’ but recognised the ‘considerable distress’ caused

Police officers have investigated after “threats to the safety of others” were made about New Hall School students on social media. The independent Essex school said messages that were “abusive, harmful and deeply concerning” about individuals connected to the school were shared on a number of TikTok accounts.
Officers from Essex Police attended the school on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 29) to investigate the incident. The force confirmed they were “pursuing several enquiries” as part of an investigation. New Hall School reassured parents that there is “no live threat” to anyone at the school, but recognised the “considerable distress” that had been caused.
A mobile phone ban for students up to and including Year 11, during the school day (8am to 6pm), has been introduced with immediate effect. Parents have been asked not to allow day students to bring phones onto the school site and, if they do, they are required to be handed to the student reception where they will be kept securely.
Pouches which lock phones will also be ordered as an alternative. Pastoral staff at the school are available to provide support to anyone affected by the incident.
The letter to parents also addressed an incident of ‘abusive graffiti’ in two toilet areas accessed by Senior Divisions students. The school’s widespread CCTV network has enabled them to identify who is involved, and action has been taken by the school and police.
Principal Katherine Jeffrey said: “I hope that this gives you reassurance on this matter. Safeguarding is a priority for us and we have taken considered and effective action, with police involvement. Managing complex matters of abusive use of social media is a challenge for all schools, and we are grateful for the parent messages of support and offers of assistance that we have received this week. Your support is appreciated.”
An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are investigating reports of threats made against students at a school in Boreham. We are pursuing several enquires and will remain in contact with the victims and school throughout the investigation.”
