Police to 'remain into the evening' after Grays 'disturbance'

Date:

Three arrests have been made following the incident today (April 10)

There is an increased police presence in Grays this evening following an incident earlier this afternoon (Friday, April 10). Essex Police said it had arrested three men after the incident in Clarence Road at around 2.30pm.

Officers rushed to the scene after reports of a disturbance, but police have not given further details about the incident at this stage. Essex Police did say that three men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

Officers will remain in the area throughout the evening, the force said. However, Essex Police has tried to reassure the local community, saying it does not believe there is an ongoing threat.

Chief Inspector Daniel Barnes, Thurrock district commander, said: “There was a large police response to this incident, which I know may have caused concern among the community.

“We’re in the early stages of working through the circumstances around the incident and three men have been arrested and remain in our custody.

“At this stage we believe those involved are known to each other and there appears to be no ongoing threat to our community. We’ll continue to have a policing presence in the area throughout the evening.”
