Violent Maidstone thief hid under duvet during arrest

A violent thief who screamed and hid under a duvet while being arrested has been locked up for more than seven years. Jason Wokeh threatened a man in Maidstone at knifepoint and stole a luxury watch after responding to an online advert.

The robbery took place at around 9pm on August 19 last year after Wokeh arranged to view a Rolex watch worth more than £10,000 at the seller’s address in Shepway. Once inside the home, the 20-year-old asked questions about the Rolex to gain the seller’s trust.

When he was handed the watch and accompanying paperwork, Wokeh pulled a 10-inch knife from his waistband, threatened the man and fled the property with the item. Officers from Kent Police were called to the scene, reviewed CCTV and, following initial enquiries, identified Wokeh as the suspect.

The arrest was carried out at his home in Maxey Road, Woolwich, where the stolen watch was recovered. After officers entered his home, Wokeh initially attempted to conceal himself under bedding.

He later silently pointed towards the stolen watch when officers informed him that they would be searching for it. Wokeh was charged with robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon.

He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on October 6 and was sentenced at the same court on March 23, 2026. Detective Sergeant Matthew Lynch, said: “Wokeh attended the victim’s home under the pretence of being a genuine buyer.

“He abused the man’s trust when he threatened to stab him and stole his luxury watch, leaving the victim shaken. I am pleased our officers were able to deliver swift justice and that Wokeh is now behind bars only months after the offence was committed.”
