New Padel Courts to Open in Gateshead Following £1.1 Million Investment
Gateshead is set to welcome a new padel facility, with Powerleague announcing a significant investment of £1.1 million into its venue on Ropery Road. The new padel courts are scheduled to open on 10th September.
Powerleague, which is recognised as the UK’s leading small-sided football and multi-sport provider, is expanding its existing football offerings to include this rapidly growing sport. In addition to the five new canopied padel courts, an investment of £8,000 will introduce a Target Darts lane at the club.
This new addition marks Powerleague’s eleventh site to include padel, bringing the total to 47 padel courts available across its national venues. The company aims to enhance accessibility for players of all skill levels, promoting padel within local communities.
John Gillespie, CEO of Powerleague, emphasised the importance of the new facility, stating, “Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK, and bringing it to Gateshead marks an important step in expanding access to the game nationwide. Backed by a £1.1 million investment, we’re transforming our existing site to create more opportunities for the Gateshead community to get active.”
To celebrate the launch, a community event will take place on Saturday, 26th September. The event will feature padel taster sessions, tournaments for all skill levels, complimentary food and drinks, VIP guest appearances, giveaways, and live music. Interested participants can make bookings and register for leagues on the Powerleague website.
