A Midlothian fraudster scammed customers out of thousands and stole ‘a quantity’ of building materials. Grant Peters carried out his crimes between February 2020 and July 2021.

Peters, of Dalkeith, told customers he would undertake building works and ‘only partially’ completed the jobs. He failed to repay funds, despite being requested to, and ‘obtained money by fraud’.

The 39-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. His victims included customers in Dalkeith who had paid him £12,000 for incomplete work between September 2020 and March 2021.

Another customer in Newtongrange was charged £7,000 for a job that was not fully carried out. A third Dalkeith customer paid £2650 for building materials and works.

Between February 2020 and October 2020, Peters also stole a quantity of building materials from an address in Dalkeith. He plead guilty to all four charges.
