Two men have been arrested following an incident on Commercial Road in the Pillgwenlly area of Newport. Armed officers were pictured at the scene at around midday on Tuesday after police received reports that the men were armed with weapons. They were also pictured stood in the doorway of Global Market Shop.
The men, aged 22 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place. They have both been released on a conditional police bail as enquiries into the incident continue.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of an altercation at an address on Commercial Road, Newport, at around 12.55pm on Tuesday, April 7.
“Officers attended, including specially trained armed officers as a precaution.
“Two men were later arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.
“The men, aged 22 and 26, were released on conditional police bail as our enquiries continue.”
