Cardiff Bus Warns of Potential Delays Due to Roadworks on Castle Street
Cardiff Bus has notified customers that bus services may face disruptions due to roadworks on Castle Street scheduled from Monday, September 21, to Friday, September 25. During this period, temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Castle Street and Westgate Street.
Given that the majority of Cardiff Bus services traverse this junction, significant delays are anticipated, which could affect the broader network. Customers are urged to utilize the Cardiff Bus app and plan their journeys in advance.
Gareth Stevens, Commercial and Operations Director for Cardiff Bus, stated, “We’ll do everything we can to keep our services running and minimise disruption, but we are expecting these temporary lights to have an impact on journey times across our network.” He added that customers should allow extra time for their journeys and consider taking an earlier bus if their travel is time-sensitive.
In addition to the upcoming short-term disruptions, long-term road improvement work began earlier this year, on February 2. This extensive scheme, expected to last approximately 52 weeks, aims to establish a permanent road layout and cycleway along Castle Street. Planned enhancements include a fully segregated cycleway, resurfaced carriageways, improved footways, changes to bus stops in the Kingsway/North Road area, and measures to enhance air quality, such as traffic management improvements and greener infrastructure.
