Hells Angel biker stalked ex and put device on her car to track her every move

Date:

Cerith Thomas also bombarded his victim with phone calls and messages, saying that it was ‘pay back time’ after their relationship had broken down

A Hells Angels Motorcycle Club member bombarded his ex-partner with hundreds of calls and messages and even strapped a tracking device to the bottom of her car so that he would know where she was at all times, a court heard.

Cerith Thomas, of Dan Y Fron, Abercrave, Swansea, was in a relationship with the woman between 2015 and 2023. Over a period of a few days in May 2024 Thomas persistently tried to contact the woman despite the fact that she had blocked his phone number and his social media accounts.

However, despite this he was able to send her a text saying that he was not going to leave her alone and that it was “pay back time”. Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here.

On May 6, he left her a message saying: “F*** you you f****** c***”. He also called her a f****** hypocrite”.

Thomas, aged 44, also referenced the woman’s new partner and said he would find out where the man lived.

On May 7 he called the victim 59 times and went to her home. It was at this point that he placed a tracking device on her car by strapping it to the vehicle with duct tape.

It was only when the woman heard an odd sound coming from her car that she inspected it and found the device. She then immediately went to Swansea Police Station to report what she had been subjected to.

Thomas was arrested and later charged with stalking involving serious alarm or distress, a charge he pleaded guilty to.

Prosecution barrister Dean Pulling read a victim impact statement at a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday. The victim said her home had transformed from “a sanctuary to a cage” during the ordeal.

She also said she suffers from panic attacks and disturbed sleep because of Thomas’ behaviour. She is studying to become a doctor but added that Thomas’ “sustained stalking” continues to have an effect on her daily life.

In mitigation, defence barrister Andrew Evans said Thomas “accepts that his conduct for that one week period is not what it should have been”. He said the defendant “concedes that there was no justification for behaving the way that he did”.

Recorder Christian Jowett addressed Thomas in court. He said the seriousness of the offence means that only an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate.

Thomas was jailed for eight months. He will serve half of that term in custody with the remainder on licence.

He will also be made the subject of a five-year restraining order meaning he cannot contact his victim directly or indirectly.
