Police have reassured locals that the heavy police presence in a Welsh town on Saturday was part of a pre-planned operation. They confirmed four individuals were arrested while officers carried out the operation in Llanelli on Saturday.

A statement from Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed there was a heavy police presence in and around Station Road in the town due to the fact officers were undertaking a pre-planned operation, not responding to an ongoing emergency incident in the area.

The force confirmed that during the operation one man, aged 37, and two women, aged 21 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. A 39-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Temporary Detective Superintendent Rhys Jones said:

I understand that police activity of this nature can be unsettling for members of the community, and I want to reiterate that this was an organised activity, and not because of any ongoing threat to the public. I’d like to thank the members of the public who co-operated with our officers during today’s operation, and the wider community for their patience while we carried out these enquiries.
