A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs, and possession of a controlled drug.
A man has been arrested after a head-on collision which left a woman with life-threatening injuries. Officers from Durham Constabulary were called to Middridge Road in Newton Aycliffe at 8.20pm on Saturday to the crash.
It is understood that a Skoda Octavia and a Peugeot 3008 were travelling in opposite directions when they were involved in the crash. The Peugeot driver, 54, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where her condition was described as life-threatening.
The 31-year-old man driving the Skoda was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs, and possession of a controlled drug.
He was taken into police custody. Three passengers who were travelling in the Skoda were uninjured.
Durham Constabulary has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage to get in touch.
