He said the six women from Cardiff were initially annoyed when he was seated between them on the plane
A professional wrestler from Birmingham has issued a public appeal to find a group of “Welsh nans” he befriended on a flight to Las Vegas. DeReiss Gordon, more commonly known by his ring name, Man like DeReiss, took to social media on Saturday with hopes of finding them.
The wrestler said he met the women on his flight from London Heathrow to Las Vegas when he was sat directly in the middle of the group of six.
Although he said the group were initially annoyed by a wrestler being sat in one of the seats they thought they’d booked, they soon warmed to one another.
He said: “Eventually the woman in the right seat… asked for help, I moved her seat back and from there we began talking. She asked why I was travelling to Vegas alone. I explained it’s Wrestlemania, and the concept of Mania Week from an indy wrestler standpoint.
“She told me she used to love wrestling on World of Sport, Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks etc and her grand children love wrestling too.” Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
The group them asked DeReiss where and when he would be wrestling and he told them he would be at the Horseshoe at 7pm on Friday night, for the ‘Game Changer Wrestling’ event.
When they landed after the 10-hour flight, the group parted ways with their new friend.
Man like DeReiss said: “I had a group hug with my new friends and they were insistent that they were going to come to the show. In my head I was thinking: ‘No way they are actually turning up.'”.
He said he was astonished that while stood at his merchandise stall that Friday night, the group of six arrived to support him. But he said they vanished before he could get their contact details.
He wrote: “After the show I never got to see them and now have no contact as they don’t have social media. So if anyone knows these women PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I know they’re from Cardiff, Wales and want to invite them to a show in the UK!”
His viral post appears to have tracked down some of the group, with one admitting she was “very hard to find”.
He has since shared a message he received from one of the group.
She wrote: “This is Susie, the woman on the left in the blue shirt who was sat next to you on the plane over, my grandchildren have shown me your post as I am very hard to find haha. Was a shame you wasn’t sat by me on the way back as I was next to some old grumpy b****rd.
“Please keep in touch as we would love to come see you in London. Susie and the girls.”
Another of the group also responded to the Facebook post after her sister tagged her in the comments. She responded: “What an amazing night Dureiss and his friends were an amazing bunch never been to a wrestling match before but I loved it such fun.”
DeReiss has now branded himself as “your nan’s favourite wrestler”.
