Youths snoop in scheme residents cars

A Wester Hailes resident has said she feels unsafe in her own community after footage was captured of youths snooping in vehicles. The video shows two young males dressed in all black riding bikes as they approach parked cars and vans before looking in the windows.

The clip, which was shared with Edinburgh Live, was taken on Tuesday May 12 just before 2am. The duo, who are wearing face coverings, examine two cars before leaving the car park.

A local woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims the pair are well known in the community and that this is the most ‘unsafe’ she has ever felt having lived on Clovenstone Gardens her whole life.

She fears for the safety of her children, with her two daughters now carrying alarms due to the rise in antisocial behaviour.

She said: “When I seen the video was I shocked? No not really.

“These lads are a menace to the community. I have lived here for 50 years and I have never felt so unsafe.

“I worry for my daughters out at night as they too are feeling unsafe. They now carry alarms with them wherever they go.

“The police know that there are groups of masked lads going around on bikes looking for any opportunity to commit a crime.”

It is understood Police Scotland have not been contacted on the back of the above incident.
