The company has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.
IKEA has closed a popular section of its Edinburgh store, it has been revealed. The Swedish furniture giant has confirmed its indoor children’s play area is no longer accessible.
Families could previously drop off their kids at the area known as Småland on arrival. Youngsters aged between three and 10 would get one hour of supervised play while adults shopped.
However, the free service is no longer on offer at either the company’s Edinburgh or Glasgow stores.
It is currently unknown what the section will be replaced with.
A statement on its website simply reads: “Småland has now closed and is no longer operational in Edinburgh. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
A sign put up at the entrance to what was the Edinburgh creche informs families: “Playtime doesn’t end here. Småland has been a place for laughter, imagination and many happy moments.
“Sadly, our play area in this store has now closed. Watch this space as we build on what comes next.”
IKEA has been contacted for comment.
