Road closed as cracks appear after locals report dip

Date:

Locals believe a ‘mineshaft’ may have opened up beneath a road in Cornwall after cracks appeared and it was shut.

Local residents say they saw a “dip” appear on North Street, Redruth, over the course of the past month. Now photos taken at the scene this week show cracks in the Tarmac where the road has been damaged.

People living in the area are claiming that a mineshaft is opening beneath the road. On Facebook several claimed they reported the potential problem to the council highways department but were told it wasn’t of concern.

North Street has been closed by Cornwall Council between Close Hill and Redruth Rugby Club.

A resident living next the road closure said: “The dip has appeared in the last month or two, getting deeper quite quickly.

“I reported it to the council via their online form and received a generic message back saying they aren’t going to do anything.

“But then within the week they’ve done this!”

CornwallLive has contacted Cornwall Council for more information.
