A man has died after being hit by a car in an early-hours crash in Dumfries.

Emergency services raced to the horror incident on the A75, between the roundabout at Lockerbie Road and the roundabout for the A701, at 3am on Sunday, May 3. Crews were called to the scene after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck by a silver Ford Fiesta.

The car involved subsequently crashed into a silver lorry travelling in the opposite direction. Paramedics attended, but the pedestrian, a 43-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

No other serious injuries were reported. The road remains closed while investigations are carried out and the roadway is repaired.

Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time. Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and we’d ask anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the man or either vehicle prior, to come forward and speak with officers.

“I’d also ask that those who were driving in the area at the time with a dash-cam review the footage to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0526 of 3 May, 2026.
